PASCAL CAVIN
Pascal Cavin est né en Suisse en 1972.
Après un passage par l'École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), c'est à Genève qu'il effectue ses études artistiques. En 1999, il sort diplômé de l'École Supérieure d'Art Visuel (HEAD), institution dans laquelle il reviendra, de 2002 à 2005, en tant qu'assistant.
En 1998, il publie «A propos d'une idée», ouvrage autant scientifique que poétique qui accompagne une intervention réalisée sur le site du Centre Européen de Recherche Nucléaire (CERN).
La même année, avec une dizaine d'autres artistes, il cofonde le collectif «airbag». Ensemble, ils mettent en place et gèrent un espace d'art contemporain et de performance au sein d'une ancienne usine de robinetterie où ils organisent présentations et ateliers. Ils participent à des expositions, notamment la Biennale de l'Image en Mouvement et l'inauguration du nouveau Musée de Design et d'Arts appliqués Contemporains de Lausanne (MUDAC), remportent plusieurs prix et publient une revue. Airbag sera dissout en 2002.
Parallèlement à ces activités collectives, Pascal Cavin poursuit sa recherche individuelle.
À la fin des années nonante, il travaille en relation de plus en plus étroite avec des bureaux d'architecture et mène une réflexion sur le thème du travail qui aboutit à la publication de «En somme», collage d'images, de dessins et de textes plus évocateur que théorique.
Au tournant du siècle, il amorce un questionnement portant sur les notions d'image, de trace, de mémoire et de perte. Il développe ainsi, depuis près de vingt ans, un univers composé de dessins, d'aquarelles, de photographies et de textes qui trouve son prolongement, depuis 2006, dans la pratique de l'enseignement au sein de l'École d'Arts Appliqués de Vevey.

Pascal Cavin was born in Switzerland in 1972.
After attending the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, he completed his artistic studies in Geneva. In 1999, he graduated from the School of Fine Arts, an institution to which he would return, from 2002 to 2005, as an assistant.
In 1998, he published "About an idea", a scientific and poetic book which accompanies an intervention carried out on the site of the European Organization for Nuclear Research.
The same year, with around ten other artists, he co-founded the "airbag" collective. Together, they set up and managed a space for contemporary art and performance in a former factory, where they organized presentations and workshops. They participated in several exhibitions, notably the Biennale of the Image in Motion and the inauguration of the new Museum of Design and Contemporary Applied Arts in Lausanne, as well as winnig several prizes and publishing a magazine. Airbag was disbanded in 2002.
Alongside these collective activities, Pascal Cavin continued his individual research.
During the 2000s, he worked more and more closely with architectural offices and led a reflection on the theme of the work which resulted, in 2006, in the publication of "En somme", a collage of images, drawings and texts which was more evocative than theoretical.
This period is also marked by a form of silence, since Pascal Cavin did not participate in any exhibitions for over ten years. Withdrawing to his studio, he continued an investigation which began at the turn of the century on the concept of the image. He developed a world composed of drawings, watercolors, photographs and texts which has found its extension, since 2006, in the practice of teaching at the Vevey School of Applied Arts.
In 2016, the exhibition "As if all that had to disappear", presented in the Abstract space of Lausanne, brought together part of the works done over recent years.
